The Fujairah Federal Magistrate’s Court has fined a woman Dh50,000 for running an Instagram account for the recruitment of domestic workers without permission from the relevant authorities.

According to court documents, the victim filed an electronic report via the police smart app stating that a woman defrauded him and obtained Dh8,500 from him in return for hiring a domestic worker. She introduced him to the domestic worker, but he did not receive his papers and identity documents allowing him to complete the legal procedures.

When he contacted the “recruiter”, she told him that when she got the documents from the worker, she would give them to him. She kept procrastinating until he asked her to return his money. When she didn’t, he filed a complaint with the police.

The woman denied the charges against her and said she handed over the domestic worker with her identity papers. The complainant returned the worker’s identification papers to complete the residency procedures, but the driver in charge of delivering the workers’ identification papers seized all the papers. She added that she works in a licensed office.

During the prosecution’s investigation, she admitted that she was working as an intermediary in the delivery of labor without obtaining authorization from the competent authorities.
