jammu: Jammu: Drone activity spotted near RS Pura international border | Jammu News

JAMMU: Border Security Force (BSF) troops spotted drone activity near the international border in Ranbir Singh Pura (RS Pura) sector of Jammu district.
Official sources said on Thursday that troops spotted a flashing light during the early hours between Jabowal and Bikram Post in RS Pura. “Troops fired 10-12 rounds at the flying object, after which it returned to the Pakistani side,” they said.
Sources added that suspecting the dropping of weapons or narcotics, FBS troops launched the search operation. “Troops are carrying out searches along the border to rule out any airdrops,” they added.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has repeatedly protested to the Pakistani Rangers against terrorist infiltration attempts and the smuggling of weapons by drones.
Earlier, security forces launched a massive search operation after detecting drone activity in Dhab in the Sandhwan of Kanachak sector near the international border in the outskirts of the city on January 12, 2022.
Fittingly on 27th June 2021, in a first of its kind, two bombs were dropped on Jammu Air Base injuring two IAF personnel and the National Investigation Agency is investigating the matter.
Drones have been spotted in the area several times since June 27, 2021 and Jammu Police successfully shot down an unmanned aerial object – a ‘hexacopter’ carrying an IED weighing 5kg in the border town of Kanachak in Jammu July 23 last year.
Following repeated drone activities and the attack on Jammu Air Base last year, district authorities have banned commercial or private use of drones in Samba, Ramban, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch and Baramulla, Srinagar , Jammu and Ganderbal of Jammu and Kashmir.
Recently, on February 10, the Divisional Administration of Jammu issued a circular requiring all drone operators to register their “drones” as per the government guidelines considering the Drone Rules 2021, notified by the Ministry of Aviation civil.
“The said rules are applicable to all persons owning, possessing or engaged in the lease, operation, transfer or maintenance of unmanned aircraft systems in India.”
