BOCA RATON, Fla. – A “suspicious” man with a knife is in critical condition in hospital after an officer shot at a Boca Raton shopping center Thursday night, police said.
The incident happened at around 9:15 p.m. near the Barnes & Noble bookstore at the University Commons shopping center, located at 1400 West Glades Road, just east of Interstate 95.
Officials said the man had a knife and was acting erratically outside the store, located on the far left of the mall, which also includes Whole Foods, Bed Bath & Beyond and Nordstrom Rack.
Police said no police were injured and the knife was recovered.

The unidentified man was taken to Delray Medical Center and underwent surgery, police said.
The square will remain closed during the investigation.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, which is protocol in any shooting involving an officer.
